The Governing Body at Barton Peveril is known as the Corporation.
It is a lively group of 20 men and women whose key tasks are:

  • To protect the educational mission, values and character of the College.

  • To determine medium and long term strategy, and monitor that current strategies are in line with the mission character.

  • To oversee the effective and efficient use of resources and to safeguard the solvency of the institution and its assets.

  • To appoint, appraise and remunerate the Holders of Senior Posts in the College, and to set a framework for the pay and conditions of service of all other staff.

Governors work with the senior management team, staff, students, auditors and inspectors to ensure that students of all ages are offered the best possible experience whilst at College and that the needs of the local community are met. Decisions are made in full Corporation meetings which are held four or five times a year, but the preparatory work is done by governors in committee.

Meetings are term time only and most take place at or around 5.30pm. There are termly training sessions and Governors are also able to take up training in many fields such as: Health and Safety, Finance, Employment Law and Child Protection. Agendas and papers for the meetings are available for inspection by members of the public in the Clerk's Office at the College.

The Chair of the Governors, David Blenkarn, and the Clerk, Joan Miles, are always interested to hear from anyone who would like to know more about the work of the Corporation or discuss the possibility of becoming a governor. Joan can be reached at jad@barton.ac.uk or 023 8036 7218 or call at the college for an information pack.
